History of Mangalore

The town of Mangalore existed during 1st century CE. It became a part of the Mauryan Empire in the 3rd century BCE. The empire was ruled by King Asoka. Till the 6th century, the town was under the rule of the Kadamba Dynasty.

Hyder Ali conquered Mangalore in the year 1763. He was the ruler of the Mysore dynasty. The region was under his supremacy till 1767.
