History of Auli
For a hundred of years, the mountains and slopes of the city were continually inhabited by tribals who were semi nomadic and were locally called Bhotiyas. They were of the origin of Mongolian who traversed the trails of the city Auli and were called by the locals as Thatauli. These tribals used to conduct flourishing trade with the neighboring country Tibet. In the past years around the eighth century, the greatest guru of the time, Guru Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have visited the city Auli. He even a built a temple which till date exists. In the later years of its formation, the city also served as one of the training grounds for the soldiers and fighters of the police force of Indo-Tibetan border.
